Can you imagine living in the 90s where everything was different from what it is now. The struggles they had to go through everyday. The struggles that every person faced day by day. And not only with money but as well as with discrimination. Not having the same rights as others. And all because of the color of their skin, the people/ gender they have preferences to. During the Jim Crow Era everything was different but with the struggles and the sacrifices they made they got through everything.
Lovecraft Country shows what living during this era was like. And us the viewers watched every detail and it was like living what they lived during this times. I would say watching this was definitely had an impact on me especially now because of everything that is going on. In fact racism up to this day still exists and is not how it used to be before but black people still wonder if they are going to make it back home. Many don’t even make it back home because of police officers taking advantage of them and the hard work they do everyday.
The Jim Crow Era was a time that everyone had to fight for their rights. Racism in fact was worse than what it is now. In an article called “A Guide To Lovecraft Country, The TV Series That Takes A Baseball Bat To White Supremacy”, it explains about the many opportunities this piece has brought for “people of color”. In the article, it says “We do not see people of color being the leads in things like this”. One thing that in my opinion is the most important is when she talks about this show being a show that many Black American viewers are going to relate to. Especially because in this century there are still some of these issues going on. Black people being killed because of police brutality a huge is a big issue.
White people discriminated black people in many ways. For example in the show Lovecraft Country who would had thought that going on an adventure would end up in one of the worse struggles they been through and not being able to travel with peace but instead wondering if any corner they are going to be stopped and be interrogated about where they going, what they are doing and why. In the article, “Lovecraft Country: Pairing The Black Experience & The Supernatural", is an example of police brutality. Many don’t talk about it because they are scared of what can happen to them. So this leads to them not speaking about it.
